More than 100 vehicles allegedly blocked all northbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Florida early Saturday morning, turning the highway into a staging area for burnouts.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a. m.

near mile marker 266 in Thonotosassa, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Traffic cameras captured the moment when the group brought traffic to a halt, with several drivers performing burnouts in the middle of the roadway.

When troopers arrived with lights and sirens, spectators sprinted back to their vehicles, and dozens of cars scattered in every direction.

Most participants managed to leave before officers could stop them, but one bright green BMW M3 chose a riskier escape route.

Investigators say the car accelerated rapidly northbound on I-75, weaving through traffic with hazard lights flashing.

Troopers reported the BMW reached approximately 140 mph (225 km/h) in a 70 mph (113 km/h) zone before exiting onto Bruce B.

The driver ran a red light and finally stopped in a parking lot, where officers made the arrest.

The driver, 25-year-old Yulian Lugo, was charged with aggravated fleeing to elude and participating in a coordinated street takeover.

Three passengers—a 24-year-old and two 18-year-olds—were also arrested and charged under Florida's street takeover law after investigators determined they were active participants.

All four were booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. The Florida Highway Patrol says the investigation is still underway.

Street takeovers have become a familiar sight in cities across America, but it's rare to see one bring an interstate to a complete standstill.
