Ford has officially named its upcoming electric midsize truck the Fathom. The standard-range model will start at $28,350, with pre-orders opening in early 2027.
The Fathom is the first vehicle built on Ford's flexible Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) architecture. It aims to attract mainstream buyers with its aggressive pricing.
Adding the $1,595 destination charge brings the total to $29,945. This keeps the truck under the $30,000 mark, excluding taxes, title, registration, and fees.
For comparison, the Slate Auto starts at $24,950 for a bare-bones version with crank windows and no speakers.
Its destination fee of $1,450 brings its total to $26,400, making the Fathom $3,545 more expensive.
Ford will begin accepting pre-orders in early 2027, with initial customer deliveries expected later that year.
The name "Fathom" means to penetrate and understand possibilities previously thought out of reach.
Ford says this reflects the engineering effort required to make an affordable electric truck commercially viable.
Features and Production
The Fathom offers more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4, seating five adults. It also includes a frunk and a bed for cargo.
Standard equipment includes a large touchscreen, bidirectional charging, a digital key, and Apple Maps. Every truck will be capable of the BlueCruise hands-free driving suite.
Production will take place at Ford's Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky.
