A judge in North Carolina has sentenced a teenager to six months in jail for a high-speed crash that killed two people and seriously injured a child.
Jason Anthony Scott, now 19, pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

The charges stem from a December 27, 2025, collision in Charlotte, where Scott was driving a BMW coupe at about 100 mph in a 45 mph zone.
His car struck a Honda CR-V at an intersection, sending the SUV into a light pole and killing the driver, Lorin Manley, and a rear-seat passenger, Gloria Manley.
A 12-year-old girl in the front passenger seat survived after bystanders pulled her from the wreckage, but she suffered internal bleeding and a crushed pelvis.
Scott sustained a broken arm and fractures to his back.
Sentence and Reaction
Court records show Scott initially received a prison sentence of at least two years and seven months.
However, Judge Matthew Osman suspended that term, ordering Scott to serve six months in jail followed by three years of probation.

Scott also lost his driving privileges and must provide a DNA sample.
The case has reignited debate over speeding, driver training, and punishment.
Modern cars are faster and heavier than ever, yet licensing processes in much of the U. S.
have changed little over the decades.
Infrastructure also plays a role, as many roads, including the one where the crash happened, are wide open with little to encourage drivers to obey speed limits.
