A lightning strike destroyed two homes in Geldrop, North Brabant, during the night of June 28, 2026.
The fire, sparked by lightning on Willem van Ruysbroeckstraat, quickly spread to adjacent buildings.
Firefighters deployed four engines, an aerial ladder platform, and an officer of service to battle the blaze. They conducted extensive demolition to locate remaining hotspots.
The two terraced houses were completely destroyed and rendered uninhabitable. Authorities arranged shelter for the displaced residents.
Teenager Injured in Rosmalen Collision
In a separate incident on June 26, 2026, a 19-year-old woman suffered severe leg injuries in a collision in Rosmalen.
The accident occurred around 2:00 p. m.
at a roundabout intersecting Vliertwijksestraat and Oude Baan-Oost.
A tractor and a scooter collided at the roundabout. The teenager was rushed to a hospital by ambulance, although a trauma helicopter had also been summoned.
The tractor driver escaped unharmed. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
