An 18-year-old suspect previously released on bond for a June 13 shooting at Haywood Mall was re-arrested on June 29, 2026, after being charged with attempted murder regarding a separate March incident in Greenville, South Carolina.
According to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, Kalief Terrill Walker and a minor allegedly chased an individual into a Dobey Drive home and fired multiple rounds following an altercation on March 27.
Walker, who was under 18 at the time of the incident, now faces charges of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a dwelling, unlawful possession of a pistol, and possessing a weapon during a violent crime.
A magistrate judge denied bond for Walker on the new charges during his booking at the Greenville County Detention Center.
Legal experts noted that the firearm possession charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence, while the other counts offer judicial flexibility.
"With these other charges, not having those mandatory minimums. It gives the judge a lot of discretion.
This may be a case where it might be 10, it might be 15, it might be five," said Cedric James, FR Law attorney.
James emphasized that the mandatory weapon charge leaves no room for alternative sentencing options if a conviction occurs.
"There's no way around it. There's no discretion here.
If Mr. Walker is convicted or pleads guilty to that charge, he is going to have to be sentenced to five years on that," said Cedric James, FR Law attorney.
Prior to his latest arrest, Walker had secured a $15,000 bond for his role in the Haywood Mall altercation that left him and an innocent female bystander injured.
His 17-year-old brother, Kamari Walker, was also arrested and charged as an adult, with his full record later being made public on the Greenville County Public Index.
"It's built in that when a juvenile is charged with something to protect, really their identity and to protect their, because they are juvenile, they can't have the same rights and responsibilities as an adult," said Cedric James, FR Law attorney.
The solicitor's office will ultimately determine whether the two brothers will face a combined trial or independent prosecutions for the shopping center incident.
"They both kind of stemmed from the same altercation, the same thing, the same occurrence at Haywood Mall.
The families of defense attorneys, that's something that they would talk about, kind of weigh the pros and cons of," said Cedric James, FR Law attorney.
Additionally, the Greenville Police Department announced that a 16-year-old juvenile was taken into custody on June 26, 2026, and placed in the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
Kalief Walker is scheduled to appear in court on August 21, 2026.
