Former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran died on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at a hospital in New Delhi while undergoing treatment for a rare and severe immune system disorder.
He was 38 years old, just one day shy of his 39th birthday.
International Career and Legacy
Zadran made his international debut for Afghanistan in 2009. Over his career, he played 80 international matches, including 44 ODIs and 36 T20Is.
He is best remembered for hitting the winning boundary in Afghanistan's first-ever World Cup victory in 2015 against Scotland.
That moment helped establish a legacy that preceded the team's later historic successes on the global stage.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed his passing in a statement on social media platform X, expressing "profound grief and deep sorrow."
The board hailed Zadran as "one of the foundation-laying figures of Afghanistan cricket, whose dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment played a vital role in the rise and development of the game in our country."
