Supermarket chain Jumbo experienced supply disruptions on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, leaving several store shelves empty across the southern Netherlands due to processing bottlenecks at its distribution center in Veghel.
High customer demand triggered the logistical strain, rendering the North Brabant facility temporarily unable to handle the incoming product volumes.
The supermarket chain has deployed additional temporary workers and rerouted deliveries for a portion of its stores through alternative distribution centers to resolve the issue.
The company is also evaluating modified operational procedures to streamline logistics, such as packing single-product pallets instead of mixed product assortments, with aims to stabilize store deliveries within the coming days.
"Het goede nieuws is dat er veel vraag is van klanten naar onze producten," said a company spokesperson, as reported by retail industry publication Distrifood.
The representative explained that the high demand requires increased effort to process the massive volumes.
Jumbo could not specify the exact number of stores impacted by the supply shortage but noted that operations are improving.
"Dit vraagt echter meer inzet om de hoge volumes te verwerken," the spokesperson added.
Jumbo is working to rectify the distribution delays, though an exact root cause has not been identified beyond the immediate capacity strains and a potential shortage of fully trained personnel.
"We werken hard om het beter te maken en het gaat de goede kant op," the spokesperson said.
Separately, logistics campus operator Kuehne+Nagel, which manages separate major logistics operations in Veghel including for Adidas, is undergoing a facility expansion project with developer WDP scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.
"Met deze herontwikkeling combineren we de continuïteit van een draaiende logistieke operatie met een significante verduurzamingsslag.
Daarmee versterken we niet alleen de positie van onze locatie, maar ondersteunen we Kuehne+Nagel in hun verdere groei met een toekomstbestendig warehouse.
Dit tezamen met een nieuwe koppeling aan het bestaande geautomatiseerde high-bay magazijn, maakt dit project vrij uniek," said Martijn Sleutjes, Head of Business Development at WDP.
The expansion aims to create an integrated logistics environment to sustain long-term growth and carbon footprint reductions on the Veghel campus.
