Every early model of the new BMW X5 will arrive with a mandatory slate interior trim, and buyers cannot opt out until December.
The option, called Individual Clear & Bold, costs €950 ($1,085) and includes a thin piece of genuine slate on the center console.

No Choice for Early Adopters
BMW's online configurator shows that every X5 built before December must be ordered with the Individual Clear & Bold package.
The slate trim sits around the redesigned shifter and is said to be the first production use of genuine slate in a car.
Crystal glass switches for seat controls on the door panels and center console are also included.
BMW will start building X5 models without the slate option from December, giving reluctant buyers a date to wait for.
