Newcastle United has agreed to sign 20-year-old midfielder Aladji Bamba from AS Monaco for a fee of 41 million euros, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The French defensive midfielder has traveled to Northern England to undergo medical checks before signing a multi-year contract.
The acquisition follows Newcastle's busy summer transfer window as the club restructures its squad.
Earlier this month, Newcastle purchased former Ajax teenage midfielder Sean Steur for 27 million euros.
The club also signed winger Bazoumana Touré from TSG Hoffenheim using funds from Sandro Tonali's 115 million euro sale to Tottenham Hotspur.
Before finalizing the deal for Bamba, Newcastle sought further midfield reinforcements.
The club bid 54 million euros for Tottenham Hotspur's 20-year-old midfielder Lucas Bergvall, according to The Athletic.
Spurs rejected the initial bid and subsequent higher offers, though reports indicate a sale might be considered if the offer meets Tottenham's valuation despite Bergvall's desire to leave.
Newcastle's push for Bergvall came after a move for World Cup standout Johan Manzambi fell through when Aston Villa intercepted the transfer at the final moment.
That setback left the club continuing its search in the transfer market, eventually leading to the deal for Bamba.
The arrival of new recruits at Newcastle follows the departure of Sean Steur, whose exit surprised former teammate Jorthy Mokio at Ajax.
The 18-year-old Belgian-Congolese midfielder recently signed a contract extension with Ajax through mid-2031.
"Of course I would have preferred him to stay. But in the end, everyone chooses their own path," said Mokio.
Mokio noted that while Steur's departure reduced competition in the squad's midfield, he regretted losing a close teammate.
"That's true, but I still would have liked to keep him here. He was definitely one of the guys I spent the most time with.
I don't know exactly what was going on with Sean. That's private.
I mainly wish him all the best," said Mokio.
With his long-term future in Amsterdam secured, Mokio stated that Ajax must now focus on returning to Europe's top competition by winning the domestic league title.
"Our goal is in any case to bring Ajax back to where it belongs: in the Champions League.
And so we have to become champions this season," said Mokio.
