BMW Group Plant Debrecen reached a major production milestone on July 28, 2026, assembling its 50,000th iX3 electric SUV just nine months after series production began in late October 2025.
The achievement marks the fastest production ramp-up of a new assembly facility in the automaker's history.
To meet surging demand, the Hungarian plant added a second production shift in February 2026, well ahead of its original schedule.
Customer orders for the first series-production model of the Neue Klasse family are approaching 100,000 units.
The facility in eastern Hungary currently holds an annual capacity to produce up to 150,000 vehicles at full operation.
The company expanded the lineup with the single-motor iX3 40 alongside the dual-motor iX3 50 xDrive launch model.
In the U. S.
market, the model starts at $61,500 plus a $1,350 destination fee, featuring an 800-volt architecture and up to 434 miles of EPA-rated range.
Strategic Role in Global EV Expansion
Executive leadership highlighted the strategic role of the new factory in scaling the company's next-generation EV architecture across its global network.
Raymond Wittmann, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production, said: "The 50,000th BMW iX3 underscores the capabilities of our plant in Debrecen: Never before have we built so many vehicles so quickly at a new plant.
This milestone is the result of an outstanding team effort."
The manufacturer plans to introduce 40 new or updated models across its global lineup by the end of 2027 using technology from the new platform.
"Each of our plants benefits from launch experiences we have made at Plant Debrecen. By the end of 2027, we will launch 40 new or updated models.
Efficiency, speed, and quality are crucial for the successful launch of all vehicles. Knowledge transfer between our production sites worldwide is a key lever," Wittmann added.
Plant leadership emphasized how the facility serves as a blueprint for future manufacturing operations.
Hans-Peter Kemser, President and CEO of BMW Group Plant Debrecen, said: "The production of the 50,000th BMW iX3 reflects the dedication and expertise of our team.
As the home of the first series-produced Neue Klasse model, Plant Debrecen is helping shape the future of the BMW Group’s global production network."
Manufacturing of the Neue Klasse platform will expand globally in the coming years.
Production at the San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico is scheduled to begin in 2027, while localized long-wheelbase variants will be built in Shenyang, China.
