Sheffield Wednesday has strengthened its goalkeeping department with the signings of Joe Lumley and Ashley Maynard-Brewer ahead of the 2026 season.
Lumley, 31, has joined the Owls on a two-year contract after a successful emergency loan spell last season.
He brings a wealth of experience with 235 career appearances, including in the Premier League.
His permanent move follows the sale of Northern Ireland international Pierce Charles to Manchester City.
Maynard-Brewer, 27, has signed a one-year deal as a free agent, arriving less than 24 hours after the club secured Connal Trueman.
The former Charlton Athletic player has 70 league appearances and recent experience at Dundee United.
Optimism and Experience
Maynard-Brewer expressed his excitement about joining, stating, "I'm super happy to be here. It seems like a really positive environment.
I had a good chat with Darryl Flahavan last week and he just sounded so optimistic about the season."
He added, "I'm really excited about the next few weeks and really getting to work with the guys, they are very welcoming."
Sporting Director Simon Wilson highlighted Maynard-Brewer's experience, noting, "At 27, Ash has significant experience playing in the EFL, having spent eight seasons at Charlton Athletic.
He has been a part of successful teams – either as a number one or two – and tested himself in different environments through several development loans."
Wilson continued, "We believe he will be a great addition to our squad and add important competition to our goalkeeping ranks as we prepare for the challenges ahead."
Lumley's experience is seen as a key asset, given his previous roles as a regular starter in the Championship with clubs like Reading, Middlesbrough, and QPR.
He is favored over Trueman and Maynard-Brewer, who have fewer senior appearances.
The competition among the three goalkeepers is expected to be competitive yet friendly.
The club is likely to reveal its first-choice keeper in early season matches, including fixtures against Leyton Orient, Accrington Stanley, and Oldham Athletic, as well as a Carabao Cup match against Bolton.
