Sevilla FC head coach Luis García Plaza has pointed to last season's squad as the backbone of the team during the 2025/26 campaign.

He said the returning players are carrying the side, with support from new arrivals, as the club navigates ongoing sale uncertainty and a difficult transfer market.

García Plaza explained that planning was complicated by limits on new signings, but he credited the existing group for keeping performances steady.

"For me, the team is being sustained by last year's players, with help from the new ones," he said.

He made an exception for Fofana, describing the player's enthusiasm after his move initially fell through.

The coach also addressed the departure of Oso, calling it a tough moment on match day.

García Plaza said he recently spoke with Oso and wished him well, adding that the team performed strongly during that period.

He noted that Oso's profile was hard to replace because of how the team was planned with the fifth lane.

"No player like Oso came, but I have to get the most out of what I have," he said.

On the close of the transfer window, García Plaza described football's brutal speed and recalled a frantic final day.

He said the club looked for a number 6 and a number 4, and that José Ignacio arrived quickly with the president acting well.

García Plaza concluded that the team still has room to grow, with some players needing to adapt.

"The core from last year is doing everything that's happening," he said.
