Xbox Game Studios, together with developers The Coalition and People Can Fly, has released Gears of War: E-Day.

The game launched on October 1, 2026, and returns the franchise to its narrative roots.

Set on the planet Sera, E-Day is a prequel built on Unreal Engine 5. It takes place 14 years before the original 2006 title.

The story centers on Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago during Emergence Day, following the Pendulum Wars.

The campaign mixes linear missions with semi-open-world sections that include side objectives.

It supports four-player online cooperative gameplay. The game also features environmental destruction and localized body damage mechanics.

Updated Controls and Multiplayer Modes

The developers have updated the traditional control scheme. Sprint is now mapped to the left thumbstick, while cover mechanics are assigned to a face button.

New movement options include sliding, vaulting, and low-cover positioning.

Multiplayer offers standard four-on-four competitive modes such as Team Deathmatch and Conquest, with fixed map weapon spawns.

E-Day also introduces Horde Siege, a 12-player cooperative mode. It divides players into three four-person squads across four character classes: Assault, Breacher, Marksman, and Medic.
