Indian teenage batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed for 15 runs off nine balls in the Asian Games 2026 men's cricket final against Pakistan at Korogi Sports Park on Saturday, October 3.
The left-hander gave India a brief, quick start at the top of the order before falling to Pakistan off-spinner Saim Ayub while attempting a reverse sweep.
His early exit left India relying on the rest of their batting lineup to build a total as they pursue a second consecutive gold medal at the tournament.
A Breakout Year Before the Final
Sooryavanshi entered the gold medal fixture after a prominent international run throughout 2026.
Earlier in the year, he finished as India's top scorer at the Under-19 World Cup, highlighted by an 80-ball 175 featuring 15 sixes against England in the final.
That innings stood as the second-fastest century in the tournament's history.
Indian team management has opted to manage the young batsman's senior international appearances gradually due to existing depth in the batting order.
Prior to the final, Sooryavanshi provided an aggressive start in the semi-final victory over Sri Lanka on October 1, scoring 38 runs off 21 balls at a strike rate exceeding 180.
His senior T20I appearances also included a mid-year tour against Zimbabwe in July, where he recorded his first international half-century in the penultimate game before following up with an 81-run performance two days later.
His recent T20I record includes 38 against Sri Lanka on October 1, 81 and 20 against Zimbabwe on July 26 and 25, 50 against Zimbabwe on July 23, and 15 against England on July 9.
