Xiaomi has taken the production SUV lap record at the Nürburgring with its YU7 GT, clocking 7:34.931.

The time beats the previous record held by the Audi RS Q8 (7:36.698) and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT Coupe (7:38.925).

The record run was driven by chief test driver Ren Zhoucan.

The YU7 GT is powered by dual electric motors producing a combined 990 hp, with a 386 hp front motor and a 604 hp rear motor.

However, the record-setting vehicle was not a standard production model.

Xiaomi equipped it with an optional Track Professional Package, which includes 265mm front and 325mm rear semi-slick tires and widened rear wheel arches.

At the Nürburgring's request, safety modifications were made: a full roll cage, racing bucket seats, and six-point harnesses.

Some interior trim was removed to offset the roll cage's weight. Xiaomi confirmed the car passed the Nürburgring's official certification and testing.

The previous record holder, the Audi RS Q8, also used a roll cage and lightweight bucket seat with the rear seats removed for its record run.

The YU7 GT debuted at the Beijing Auto Show last month.

It features a 101.7 kWh battery pack and adjustable suspension for compression, rebound, and ride height, honed at the Nürburgring.

No official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) time has been released, but it is expected to outperform most performance SUVs.
