AC Milan is expected to facilitate his exit in the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking to Sport TV, Leao expressed gratitude toward his current club while outlining his ambitions. "I think I've given Milan everything I could give.

It's been a club that helped me grow a lot, that supported me in the tough moments.

I'm happy to have managed to write my name in the club's history," he said.

Leao elaborated on his motivation: "Everyone has their dreams, their challenges, the things they desire, and the goals they want to reach.

And I, too, want to try a new challenge in a new league."

He also revealed his admiration for specific English clubs, noting a connection to Old Trafford inspired by a footballing icon.

"I often watch the Premier League.

I like Manchester United, especially because of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is my idol, but also Arsenal is a team I follow on TV," Leao added.

Any official transfer proceedings will likely pause until Portugal concludes its 2026 World Cup campaign. Leao was called up to Roberto Martinez's national squad last month.

Portugal is scheduled to play friendlies against Chile and Nigeria before facing DR Congo in their group stage opener on June 17.

The 26-year-old registered 10 goals and three assists in 31 appearances across all competitions this season, falling short of his 2022/2023 peak where he recorded 15 goals and 10 assists in 35 Serie A matches.
