Finland captured its third gold medal in eight years at the IIHF World Championships, defeating host Switzerland 1-0 in overtime.

Goaltender Justus Annunen made 22 saves for the shutout. The golden goal came from 20-year-old Konsta Helenius at 10:42 of overtime.

Switzerland earned its third consecutive silver medal, having lost 1-0 in overtime to the United States last year and 2-0 to Czechia in 2024.

Norway secured the bronze medal by defeating Canada in overtime, marking the country's first-ever podium finish at the tournament.

IIHF Hall of Fame Induction

Former Boston Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron was officially inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Zurich.

Bergeron's international career includes a 2004 World Championship, 2005 World Juniors title, 2010 and 2014 Olympic gold medals, and the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

He enters as member No. 25 in the Triple Gold Club and becomes eligible for the Hockey Hall of Fame this year.

The 2026 player induction class also includes Andres Ambühl, Cassie Campbell-Pascall, Niklas Kronwall, Florence Schelling, and Thomas Vanek.

Ralph Krueger and Luc Tardif entered as builders.

Other Tournament Highlights

Two Boston Bruins players were on the gold-winning Finnish squad, with one earning a spot on the tournament's all-star team.
