Negotiations for a new deal at Anfield failed to produce an agreement.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 27-year-old centre-back is set to sign a four-year contract with Los Blancos.
The move is conditional on Florentino Perez winning his re-election bid to remain Real Madrid president.
Konate had received financial offers from Saudi Pro League clubs but delayed his decision hoping for an approach from the Spanish giants.

Konate confirmed his Liverpool departure on social media, calling it an honor to represent the club and expressing sadness at missing the chance to say goodbye at the final home game.
He described the passing of teammate Diogo Jota as the most painful moment of his tenure and his father's death as one of the hardest periods of his life.
