England Test cricket captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson violated a newly introduced England and Wales Cricket Board midnight curfew during a late-night altercation at a Chelsea nightclub in London in the early hours of Monday morning.
The incident occurred following England's victory over New Zealand at Lord's, where a larger group of players had been celebrating before the midnight restriction took effect.

ECB Investigation Underway
An independent investigation has been launched by the ECB cricket regulator into the confrontation, which involved a Saracens rugby player who allegedly threw a punch at Atkinson that struck an accompanying ECB security officer.
The controversy has intensified discussions regarding the physical and psychological toll of leadership on Stokes, who recently completed four years as captain amidst a downward trend in team performances following the July 2023 Oval Test against Australia.
Before the late-night incident took place, Stokes publicly discussed the immense pressure and fatigue associated with managing dual responsibilities as a primary all-rounder and the national team leader.
"Over a long period of time, you bowl a lot of overs, you’re standing in the field, you’re thinking about captaining and batting is mentally tiring as well.
You then come off the field, and you’re getting that off and then getting this on. Over time, it can get a bit tiring.
You sort of just go, ‘Right, how can I give myself the best chance of being the best version of myself, as long as I can?’"
