Former England football player Jill Scott began a 388-mile cycling and running journey from London's Wembley Stadium to Sunderland's Stadium of Light on June 8, 2026.

The five-day event, called the Coming Home Challenge, aims to raise funds for Sport Relief community initiatives.

The route connects significant locations from Scott's professional career and grassroots upbringing.

The 39-year-old former midfielder completed 112-mile and 99-mile cycling segments on Monday and Tuesday, passing through Warwickshire, Birmingham, and Nantwich.

On Wednesday, she embarked on a 38-mile ultra-marathon run from Liverpool to Manchester. Scott earned 161 international caps for England and won the UEFA Women's Euro 2022.

She is using a custom Mark 1 Allroad bicycle built by Mercian Cycles to navigate road and gravel sections.

The itinerary concludes Friday with a 28-mile marathon finish into her hometown of Sunderland, where her career began with Sunderland Harriers and the women's team.

Community Support and Motivation

During the initial phase, Scott interacted with spectators at various community pitstops.

"I think everybody said it was going to be an epic challenge, but if you want people to donate and help make a difference, you've got to try and do something big," said Scott.

The athlete noted her career was made possible through early access to youth sports facilities. "Sport Relief is just fantastic.

Even me being able to say yes to this challenge is because I got to do sport when I was a child," she said.
