“Jemma was a valued member of our community whose presence, character and contribution left a lasting impact on those around her,” the league said.
Knox Little Athletics, where Stapleton trained as a youth, praised her dedication and competitive spirit.
“Her achievements on the track were a reflection of her dedication, competitive spirit and the joy she brought to the sport,” the club stated.
The Rowville Netball Club, where she formerly played, called the loss “simply unimaginable.”
“Jemma will always be remembered as part of our Rowville Netball Club family,” the club said.
In a video posted to Instagram last September, Stapleton reflected on her athletic journey since age four.
“Last year was just sort of my breakthrough year,” she said, calling seeing her name on the Stawell scoreboard a “pinch me” moment.
