AC Milan has reached an agreement to appoint Ruben Amorim as its new head coach, finalizing the deal on June 15, 2026.

The Portuguese manager signed a two-year contract with an option for a third season.

Amorim, 41, takes over after a disappointing campaign under Massimiliano Allegri, which saw Milan finish fifth in Serie A and miss out on Champions League qualification.

According to reports from abola. pt, Amorim will earn a net salary of 3.5 million euros per season.

He is also eligible for a 1 million euro bonus if he wins the Serie A title and 500,000 euros for securing Champions League football.

The appointment comes after Amorim's 14-month stint at Manchester United, where he was dismissed in January.

The Telegraph reports that his move to Milan will save United millions in ongoing severance costs, as the club had previously set aside a 16.7 million pound package for him and his staff.

Amorim had initially planned to take a sabbatical but was drawn to the opportunity at San Siro.

"I played for Benfica, now I have to coach Milan," he said.

Milan chose Amorim over Al Ahli's Matthias Jaissle because the Portuguese was a free agent, avoiding compensation fees to the Saudi club.

The club is also restructuring its management, with Eintracht Frankfurt's Markus Krosche expected to join as general manager alongside sports director Timmo Hardung.

Amorim inherits a team in turmoil.

Milan has had eight different managers in the last nine years and won only two trophies since 2017 under RedBird Capital ownership.
