The Pittsburgh Pirates erased an early four-run deficit and edged the Oakland Athletics 6-5 on Tuesday night at Sutter Health Ballpark, powered by late-inning home runs from Brandon Lowe and Bryan Reynolds.

Lowe broke a 5-5 tie in the ninth inning with a solo shot off Athletics reliever Elvis Alvarado.

The victory snapped a rough stretch for the Pirates, who had lost eight of their previous 10 games.

Reynolds was the offensive catalyst, finishing with four hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored.

He homered from both sides of the plate, connecting in the sixth and seventh innings.

Oakland jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning against Pirates starter Mitch Keller.

After loading the bases on walks, Zack Gelof drove in a run with an infield single, and a throwing error by first baseman Spencer Horwitz allowed two more runs to score.

Lawrence Butler followed with an RBI double.

The Pirates got on the board in the fourth inning on an RBI groundout by Nick Gonzales.

Gelof extended Oakland's lead to 5-1 with a solo home run in the sixth, extending his hitting streak to 20 games, the longest active streak in MLB.

Pittsburgh tied the game in the seventh when Reynolds launched a two-run homer off left-hander Hogan Harris, making it 5-5.

Reliever Mason Montgomery earned the win with a hitless eighth inning, and Gregory Soto notched his 11th save despite allowing two hits in the ninth.

The three-game series concludes Wednesday with a rubber match.
