Festival organizer Q-dance and the municipality of Dronten jointly canceled the event after the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) issued a historic code red warning for extreme heat on Thursday evening.
Attendees React to Sudden Closure
German festival attendee Lars expressed deep disappointment over the sudden closure after traveling from Cologne with his friends.
"We komen hier al vijf jaar, ieder jaar opnieuw," said Lars.
The group had planned to enjoy a four-day weekend at the venue, which was voted the best festival of 2025 by its visitors.
"Iedereen keek ernaar uit om vier dagen lang een geweldige tijd te hebben," said Lars.
Following reports of minor unrest and property damage by a frustrated crowd on Thursday night, the situation stabilized by Friday morning as long lines of vehicles departed toward the highway.
Organizers noted that while music stages remained silent, campsites and essential infrastructure remained open temporarily to assist stranded visitors.
Organizers and Authorities Explain Decision
In an official statement, festival organizer Q-dance described the forced cancellation as a highly devastating outcome for everyone involved.
"worstcasescenario," said Q-dance.
The management emphasized the profound impact of the cancellation across all operational levels.
"Dit is een klap die op elk niveau gevoeld wordt," said Q-dance.
