Organizers of President Donald Trump's Freedom 250 initiative canceled a scheduled performance by rapper Vanilla Ice on Friday evening at the National Mall after severe weather forced an early closure of the Great American State Fair.

The cancellation occurred approximately two hours before the "Ice Ice Baby" performer was scheduled to take the stage on Friday, June 26, 2026.

The 16-day festival, which opened on Wednesday to mark the nation's 250th birthday, was halted three days into its run as rain sent sparse crowds searching for cover.

The public-private organization coordinating the milestone celebrations cited safety concerns while announcing the closure of the fairgrounds for the remainder of the evening.

Officials noted that operations are scheduled to resume on Saturday at 10 a. m.

"The safety of our guests, staff, and partners remains our top priority.

We are actively monitoring conditions and will provide updates as they become available," stated Freedom 250 on X.

Prior to the cancellation, Vanilla Ice, whose real name is Rob Van Winkle, expressed excitement about the event through a video and social media caption posted from the National Mall.

"We're about to have a great party tonight," said Van Winkle in an Instagram video. "This is gonna be epic."

The 58-year-old musician, who grew up in Dallas and Miami, rose to prominence when his track became the first rap song to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In his online statements, he framed the performance as a historic celebration for the country.
