Veteran British character actor Michael Byrne has died at the age of 82.
His death was confirmed on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

Byrne passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026. He is survived by his former wife Carole, their two daughters Tara and Bryony, and three grandchildren.
Television and Film Career
Byrne gained widespread recognition for playing Ted Page, the long-lost father of Gail Platt, on the ITV soap opera Coronation Street.
He appeared on the show from 2008 to 2010, with his final episode airing in January 2010.

In film, he portrayed the ruthless Nazi officer Colonel Vogel in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade alongside Harrison Ford and Sean Connery.
He also played the older Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.
His other film credits included Braveheart, Tomorrow Never Dies, and A Bridge Too Far.
