In Soledad, California, small businesses experienced a significant surge in sales and foot traffic immediately following the opening tournament victories for both the United States and Mexico national teams.
"We've been busier than usual, especially with the World Cup going on," said Gilberto Rodriguez, owner of Rodriguez Sports.
"We got the jerseys in on time. It was calm at first, but then all of a sudden we started to sell everything."
The sporting goods store, operated by Rodriguez and his wife Miriam, struggled to keep the iconic green and black El Tri jerseys in stock due to the unprecedented local tournament fever.
"We sold out twice," said Miriam Rodriguez, who is anticipating more fans to roll in before the final match in group play for both Mexico and the USA.
