The race was seen as a key test for the party's progressive wing, which has sought to replace established lawmakers with more left-leaning candidates.
Hickenlooper maintained significant advantages throughout the campaign, including a large fundraising lead and endorsements from prominent national figures such as U.
S. Sens.

Before joining the Senate in 2020, Hickenlooper served as Colorado's governor from 2011 to 2019 and as mayor of Denver from 2003 to 2011.
He unseated Republican incumbent Cory Gardner to win his current seat.
Gonzales, who has represented Denver in the state senate since 2019, ran an insurgent campaign.
She criticized Hickenlooper for his willingness to compromise with Republicans and called for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Hickenlooper will face Republican state Sen. Mark Baisley in the general election in November.
