Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe faces a serious threat to his job security if the club sells midfielders Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali this summer, according to former Premier League talent scout Bryan King.

Speaking to Football Insider on July 1, 2026, King warned that the potential departures of these key players would jeopardize Howe's position with both the club hierarchy and the fan base.

The warning follows a rejected initial bid from the Premier League champions for Guimaraes, who is under contract until 2028 but is considering his options.

Newcastle are also navigating transfer talks for Tonali, which could influence Guimaraes' future.

The financial pressure has already led to the £69 million sale of winger Anthony Gordon to Barcelona earlier this summer.

Howe on Thin Ice

King, who previously scouted for Everton, Tottenham, and Aston Villa, shared his assessment of the situation on Tyneside.

"I just think that if Eddie Howe allowed that to happen, that will put Eddie Howe on very thin ice up there," King said.

He noted that the Newcastle manager already finds himself under pressure, and parting with the club captain would alienate the St James' Park faithful.

"I think he's on as thin ice as he is, but I don't think the supporters would go along with the manager wanting to get rid of the star man and captain," King added.
