Investigators reconstructed the suspect's movements using surveillance footage, according to France Télévisions.
The footage shows the suspect monitoring the family's movements on the morning of the attack before returning to wait near their building in the evening.
Eric Pelletier, Police-Justice journalist at France Télévisions, described the sequence: the suspect placed a bag containing the explosive device near the home, then moved away.
He ensured the family reached the vicinity before triggering the device remotely from a few dozen meters away.

After the explosion, the suspect escaped on foot through public staircases leading directly into France. Law enforcement lost track of him there.
The Marseille technical and scientific police are analyzing remnants of the explosive bag and a public bench for DNA evidence.
A foreign national was detained for questioning on Wednesday morning but was released later that afternoon. The prosecutor's office confirmed the individual's custody was lifted after necessary checks.
The Ukrainian oligarch is no longer in critical condition, but the injured woman remains unstable with life-threatening injuries.
