The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) is reportedly considering Michael Reiziger as a potential successor to Ronald Koeman.

This follows the Netherlands' early elimination from the World Cup against Morocco, as reported by Voetbal International on July 3, 2026.

Internal Discussions Underway

Journalist Martijn Krabbendam revealed that the football association faces a critical decision as the team prepares for a new cycle ahead of the 2028 European Championship.

“In the corridors in Zeist, the name of Michael Reiziger has been circulating for some time as the new national coach,” wrote Krabbendam.

However, he questioned the potential appointment, noting that the current Jong Oranje coach lacks top-flight club management experience.

“Reiziger is a nice man who did well as coach of Jong Ajax, but as national coach of Jong Oranje he did not leave a strong impression,” Krabbendam added.

He stressed that the KNVB must define a clear tactical direction, arguing that the team's defensive approach during the World Cup contradicted its historical identity.

“The country that once stood for attacking, adventurous and dominant football presented itself as an underdog,” he wrote.

International figures also expressed disappointment, with Thierry Henry reportedly missing the traditional Netherlands approach.

“Attack, attack, attack, I always learned there,” stated Zlatan Ibrahimović.

While Reiziger remains an internal option, Krabbendam urged KNVB Director of Top Football Nigel de Jong to target former Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who is currently available and won domestic titles with AZ, Feyenoord, and Liverpool.
