Jurgen Klopp has accepted an agreement to become the new manager of the Germany national football team, following the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann.

The appointment comes after Germany suffered a round of 32 penalty shootout defeat against Paraguay at the World Cup, prompting Nagelsmann to step down under board pressure.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Klopp has agreed to a long-term contract to lead the national squad, though specific project details remain under discussion.

The German Football Federation (DFB) reached out to the 59-year-old coach, who has spent the last 19 months serving as the head of global football for Red Bull after leaving Liverpool in 2024.

The role grants Klopp broad powers to restructure youth development categories and overhaul the team's playing style.

He intends to bring in his own coaching staff, including former Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders, while Red Bull begins searching for a replacement executive.

“Yes, I can confirm the talks. Things moved along quite quickly.

Julian [Nagelsmann] has resigned and the DFB is working on a successor. And in the course of these considerations, they approached me,” said Klopp.

The veteran manager noted that negotiations require further discussions due to his current corporate commitments with his employer, Oliver Mintzlaff.

“I have an existing contract with Red Bull. I've said many times how much I enjoy this job.

As a person, I usually honour contracts. But I've also made it clear that I'm interested in talks with the DFB.
