Military police officers safely detonated an unexploded handgrenade found on the roof of a municipal daycare center in Rio de Janeiro's North Zone on Sunday afternoon.

Officers from the 16th BPM (Olaria) responded to a report involving explosives in the Favela do Dique community, according to the Military Police.
Law enforcement secured the perimeter and awaited specialists from the Civil Police's Bomb Squad, who located the live weapon on the facility's roof during a sweep.

A specialized team from CORE executed a controlled detonation of the device at approximately 2:45 p. m.
Authorities reported no injuries, arrests, or immediate details regarding how the explosive reached the location.
The Municipal Secretariat of Education stated that the device was found on the roof of the institution, and the incident was formally registered at the 59th DP.
