Torrential monsoon rainfall waterlogged key suburban routes across Mumbai on July 5, 2026, creating deep hidden potholes that caused multiple commuter accidents and widespread infrastructure damage.

The India Meteorological Department issued a short-term red alert for Mumbai and the Raigad district after precipitation exceeded 250 millimeters within 23 hours in several areas.

Hazardous road conditions drew sharp criticism from local residents and political figures regarding poor municipal maintenance.

Local resident Zakir Ansari reported that the stretch connecting the White Bridge to the Kamani Signal has become extremely dangerous due to uneven surfaces hidden beneath the rainwater.

"The potholes here are so bad that two-wheeler riders slip every day.

From the White Bridge up to Kamani Signal, the road is in this condition, and it's not even level.

During the rains, potholes aren't visible. When water fills them, accidents occur," Ansari told ANI.

The heavy downpour also impacted buildings and trees across the region, causing a balcony collapse in Navi Mumbai's Belapur village and waterlogging throughout Thane city.

In Ghatkopar's Vikrant Circle, an uprooted giant tree crushed an automobile early in the morning.

An eyewitness stated that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation failed to act despite receiving a formal complaint about the hazardous tree a week prior to its collapse.

"Around eight days back, our manager complained about this, an official from the BMC came, he registered the complaint, and no one came.

Four vehicles have been damaged. There are no casualties," the eyewitness told ANI.
