Second-seeded Alexander Zverev advanced to his first career Wimbledon quarterfinal on Tuesday, defeating Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (6) at Centre Court in London.

Upon resumption, Lehecka won the third set by taking three consecutive games in eight minutes.

Zverev then secured the match in a fourth-set tiebreak on his third match point.

Historic Achievement

According to ESPN Research, this round-of-16 victory marks the first time the 29-year-old German has progressed past the fourth round at the All England Club, after three previous defeats at this stage.

Zverev becomes the first German man since Boris Becker in 1991 to reach the quarterfinals or better in each of the season's first three Grand Slam tournaments.

He will next face sixth-seeded American Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
