Daihatsu has refreshed the Taft for the Japanese market, six years after the kei crossover first debuted.
The update brings two new special editions, upgraded technology, and a more comprehensive safety suite.

The goal is to keep the little crossover competitive against rivals like the recently facelifted Suzuki Hustler and the Mitsubishi Delica Mini.
Daihatsu expanded the range with the Rugged Venture and Active Mode special editions, both based on the high-spec G and G Turbo trims.
New Special Editions
The Rugged Venture features a custom grille and tailgate garnish in Smoked Chrome and Black. It rides on 15-inch Gunmetal alloy wheels with matching interior accents.
The Active Mode gets the same components but with a darker finish.
An optional Active Mode Style kit adds orange accents to the grille, profile, wheels, fog lights, and reflectors.
The regular Taft lineup receives no styling changes except for the new Spark Orange paint option.

Interior and Safety Updates
Inside, the Taft gains a 7-inch digital instrument cluster with sharper graphics. The 9-inch infotainment system remains optional.
A removable under-luggage box adds practicality, and the panoramic sunroof is still available.
Safety upgrades include new sensors that detect cyclists, oncoming traffic when turning right, and pedestrians crossing when turning.
The pedestrian collision avoidance system now works up to 80 km/h (50 mph). Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist have been recalibrated for smoother operation.
Powertrain and Pricing
The powertrain carries over: a 658 cc three-cylinder engine producing 51 hp (38 kW) naturally aspirated or 63 hp (47 kW) with turbo.
Both pair with a CVT, with FWD or 4WD options.
