Toyota's Gazoo Racing has launched the GR Kart, an entry-level racing kart now available at select locations across Japan.
The kart is powered by a compact 215cc engine with a modern diaphragm carburetor. Toyota has not disclosed the power output.
The GR Kart weighs 83 kg and includes a self-charging battery. It uses a belt-drive system with an automatic tensioner, eliminating the need to adjust the belt manually.
Upkeep is simplified by a rust-resistant stainless steel rear axle shaft and metal fuel lines.
Toyota says the kart accommodates drivers between 4'4" (135 cm) and 6'0" (185 cm) tall, thanks to an adjustable steering wheel and sliding pedal box.
This allows both children and adults to use it.
The design also considers storage.
Each kart has an engine oil catch tank, and the fuel filler is positioned so the kart can be stored upright without draining gas or engine oil.
The GR Kart is designed to fit inside popular Japanese minivans like the Toyota Noah and Voxy without disassembly.
Like Toyota's road cars, it emphasizes durability.
The kart is currently available at 36 go-kart tracks across Japan, as well as at several GR Garage locations.
Local pricing starts at 385,000 yen, or about $2,490 at current exchange rates.
Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda wants more people to take up go-karting, and the GR Kart is part of that push.
