Severe thunderstorms and extreme weather have struck parts of Europe and Bangladesh, causing flooding and fatalities.

In France, hailstones the size of golf balls were reported, with thunderstorms causing damage across the region. Residents in southeastern France reported hailstones measuring between 5cm and 7cm.

Streets were covered in hail, damaging vehicles, buildings, and vineyards.

Thunderstorms also hit Germany and Poland. In Wrocław, Poland, roads and tram services were disrupted due to flooding and fallen trees.

Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and prepare for potential power outages as more rainfall is expected.

In a separate incident, heavy monsoon rains in Bangladesh have resulted in at least 53 deaths.

The capital, Dhaka, has experienced over a week of continuous rain, leading to severe flooding and landslides.

The Cox's Bazar refugee settlement has been notably affected, with residents evacuated due to rising waters.

The Chattogram district recorded 412.3mm of rain in just 24 hours, the highest single-day July rainfall in 42 years.

Approximately one million people have been impacted, with many seeking refuge in government shelters.

Bangladesh's low-lying geography and numerous rivers exacerbate its vulnerability to flooding during the monsoon season. Further rainfall is anticipated, raising concerns over flash floods and landslides.
