Lady Joan Boston, the wife of rugby league legend Sir Billy Boston, has died at the age of 90, Wigan Warriors announced on Thursday.
The club released an official statement expressing deep sadness and offering condolences to Sir Billy and the Boston family.

A moment of silence will be held before Friday evening's match between Wigan Warriors and St Helens at the Brick Community Stadium to honor her memory.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham led public tributes, describing Lady Joan as a steadfast presence alongside the rugby league star.
"Behind every great person is often a great support, and Joan was a hugely important part of Billy's journey," Burnham said.
He added that his thoughts were with Sir Billy, their family, and all who knew and loved her.

Longtime acquaintances remembered her resilience in the face of racism she endured for marrying Billy Boston in the 1950s.

The couple celebrated their 70th platinum wedding anniversary and Lady Joan's 90th birthday at the stadium earlier this year, following Sir Billy's knighthood at Buckingham Palace last year.
