"I think there is a greater chance of getting sick if I talk to you here," he said.
"Or when you ride uphill between all those fans. In the team bubble, I don't worry."
In addition to illness, rider Florian Vermeersch dealt with a physical injury during Thursday's stage, leaving Felix Grossschartner as Pogacar's sole climbing helper in the finale.
"It wasn't my best day, I'll say honestly. I'm struggling a bit with an injury that is currently holding me back," Vermeersch said.
"Fortunately, I'm not sick and I feel good."
