Bandai Namco Filmworks announced a new anime series, Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, on July 23, 2026, at San Diego Comic-Con.
The series is scheduled for release in 2027 and is directed by Kenji Kamiyama, known for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

New Continuity and Multimedia Project
The project launches a fresh continuity called After Apocalypse. It connects directly to the upcoming video game Gundam Rogue Orbit.
Novelist Toh EnJoe contributed to the worldbuilding. Sola Animation handles animation production, with character designer Miyako Takasu and mecha designer Eiichi Shimizu.
The story follows Ray Azumi, a war orphan voiced by Takeo Otsuka.
He becomes the pilot of the experimental Gundam Zero on the lunar surface, 45 years after an alien ecosystem called the Apocalypse forced humanity off Earth.

Director Kamiyama shared his creative process during the reveal.
He initially struggled with creating a Gundam in an entirely new timeline, but eventually found excitement in building a fresh Gundam from the ground up.
Voice actor Takeo Otsuka expressed his honor at joining the franchise. He praised Kamiyama's story and looked forward to the media-mix project spanning anime and video games.
The companion game, Gundam Rogue Orbit, is a high-mobility action game with music by Mick Gordon. It is set 100 years after the anime.

Both the anime and game are scheduled for 2027.
