Former Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto identified Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony as the active Major League Baseball player whose hitting style and swing most closely mirror his own.
Votto made the comparison during an appearance on MLB Network ahead of his broadcasting debut for NBC's Sunday Night Baseball on July 26, 2026.

The 17-year veteran praised the 22-year-old outfielder's plate approach and mechanical traits.
"Roman Anthony and I have very similar swings, certainly," Votto said. "When I was younger – actually very, very similar swings."
He noted that both players share similar physical statures.
Votto is listed at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, while Anthony stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 200 pounds.
"Both of us, not big, super strong guys. Tall, but not really, really tall," Votto added.
"Bat speed plays, and he has plenty of it."

Votto also highlighted Anthony's ability to handle left-handed pitching and hit the ball the other way.
"Roman Anthony is probably the guy that stands out most to me," he said.
