Girlguiding has unveiled its first major uniform overhaul in more than 30 years, relaxing long-standing wardrobe rules to allow members to wear just a single branded top to meetings and official events.
The new collection, created in collaboration with HemingwayDesign and informed by feedback from 55,000 girls and women, includes 30 clothing items and 15 accessories.

It features modern touches such as hidden waistband pockets, thumb holes, and badge sashes that convert into cross-body bags.
A June survey of 2,000 UK girls aged 6 to 16 found that 93% felt most comfortable when choosing their own style, while 41% said strict school rules limited personal expression.
Members can transition to the new attire gradually, and older uniforms can be upcycled at summer workshops.
Designed to Boost Confidence
Felicity Oswald, Chief Executive Officer of Girlguiding, said the redesign aligns with the charity's mission to nurture self-esteem among its 300,000 members and 80,000 volunteers.
“The new range is all about providing girls with the freedom to express themselves, whilst feeling part of our amazing organisation,” she stated.

Oswald noted that internal findings show girls in guiding are 30% more confident than their peers.
“We know that self-expression and confidence go hand in hand,” she added, emphasizing that the uniform aims to foster a sense of belonging.
The organization hopes to expand its reach by 2030, reaching more girls where they are and building their confidence.
Broadcaster and Girlguiding ambassador Angellica Bell praised the collection's versatility, saying it “empowers girls and volunteers to embrace their individuality.”
Bell highlighted the thoughtful details, including “playful, bold colours and practical designs, including secret pockets.”

The uniform launch precedes a membership policy update taking effect September 6, limiting participation to biological females following a 2025 Supreme Court ruling on the Equality Act 2010.
