The Atlanta Falcons are set to begin training camp on July 29 in Flowery Branch, Georgia, with a pivotal quarterback battle between Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. under new head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Tagovailoa currently holds the edge, boosted by Stefanski's praise and Penix's ongoing rehabilitation from a torn ACL sustained last November.

Stefanski spoke highly of Penix's character and progress. "Mike's a great young man.
I've loved getting to know him," Stefanski said. "The most important thing for Mike right now is just getting healthy and he's doing awesome."
He added that Penix is dedicated to improvement. "I see a young man that really wants to be great.
So he's been awesome to be around."
Falcons insider Adam Schefter noted Stefanski's positive comments on Tagovailoa's accuracy as a hint.
"When I heard Stefanski speak in glowing terms about Tua, I said to myself 'I think that’s a little hint into where the QB battle could be headed'," Schefter said.

Schefter also pointed out that neither Stefanski nor GM Ian Cunningham were involved in drafting Penix, and the front office chose to sign Tagovailoa as a better fit for the offense.
Penix's health remains a key factor. He aims to be cleared for full contact by camp start, which could keep the competition open.
Beyond the quarterback battle, the Falcons are building depth elsewhere.
Undrafted free agent tight end Jack Velling has impressed with his size and receiving skills, though he needs to improve blocking.
Velling recorded 72 catches for 770 yards over two years at Michigan State, after an eight-touchdown season at Oregon State in 2023.
