Senior German politicians are demanding stricter penalties and intelligence reforms following a deadly vehicle ramming at Berlin's Christopher Street Day Pride event on July 25, 2026.
The attack left one person dead and 29 others injured.

Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner confirmed on Monday that the deceased victim was a Polish national. He expressed his condolences during an exhibition opening at Berlin City Hall.
“I am deeply moved by what happened on Saturday, and my thoughts are with you and, above all, with the daughter and the family of the murdered woman,” Wegner said.
He added that the violence was driven by hatred.
The Polish Foreign Ministry separately confirmed the nationality of the casualty.
Police identified the suspect as Abdul B. , a Berlin-born known Islamist radical.
He had been released from detention under a suspended sentence by a juvenile court in May.
Juvenile Law Reform Under Review
In response to growing public pressure, the German Justice Ministry announced plans to commission a study evaluating juvenile law reforms.
Initial findings are expected by late 2027.
A ministry spokesperson stated the review was initiated to address broader youth crime trends rather than acting solely as a reaction to Saturday's incident.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz signaled that official political measures remain under consideration. Authorities are investigating how a monitored radical approached the parade route.
“Most of all, we will have to answer the question: How is it at all possible that a man with this classification here in Berlin could have approached the Christopher Street Day undisturbed and commit this attack?”
