An official investigation is underway after two women died during a diving emergency at Loch Fyne in Argyll and Bute on Sunday.
Emergency crews recovered the bodies of the women, both in their 20s, following a multi-agency response that began around 3:30 p.
m.
Coastguard teams and local lifeboat crews were deployed after reports of divers experiencing difficulties in the water.
A 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, aged 24, was found after an extensive search operation.
Police Scotland confirmed they received a "report of concern for two female divers."
A spokesperson said: "Emergency services attended and a 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene."
Specialized marine search teams coordinated rescue efforts across the expansive sea loch before locating the second victim.
The spokesperson added: "Further searches were carried out in the water, and the body of a 24-year-old woman was recovered."
Formal post-mortem examinations will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The deaths are being treated as unexplained.
The incident at Loch Fyne was one of several coastal tragedies across the UK on Sunday that claimed three additional lives.
In Newquay, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 30s were pulled from the water at Fistral Beach and pronounced dead.
At West Wittering, one person died and another was hospitalized after separate incidents.
