Land Rover is retiring the Discovery Sport after 12 years on the market. Production will cease in December 2026, according to a company spokesperson.
The entry-level SUV has seen a steep sales decline.

In the most recent quarter, deliveries fell 49.3% to just 2,452 units, making it Land Rover's slowest-selling model.
The decision is linked to new European Union safety regulations.
The General Safety Regulation 2, effective July 7, requires advanced driver distraction warning and emergency braking systems that detect pedestrians and cyclists.
The Discovery Sport reportedly lacks these features.

Orders have already been halted in several countries. The model was launched in 2014 following a $256 million investment at Land Rover's Halewood plant.
No direct replacement has been announced. However, the upcoming Defender Sport is expected to effectively fill the gap.
The larger Discovery is also rumored to be on borrowed time, potentially ending the Discovery lineup entirely.

The Range Rover Evoque, which sold 10,615 units in the same quarter, will remain in production for now but is expected to be phased out after the Defender Sport arrives.
