Dallas Mavericks president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri has made a series of roster moves on July 27, 2026, reshaping the team around reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg after a 26-win season.
The front office overhaul follows Ujiri's appointment in May, which came less than three months after former general manager Nico Harrison traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The roster transformation includes replacing head coach Jason Kidd with Dusty May and bringing back guard Kyrie Irving after a season-long absence due to a torn left ACL.
ESPN contributor Ben Golliver praised Ujiri's early acquisitions for their fit with Flagg.
"The best part about Ujiri’s first wave of moves is that he targeted players who should make life easier for franchise forward Cooper Flagg," Golliver wrote, citing the contributions of Johnson, de Larrea, and Risacher, as well as Irving's expected return.
Alongside Ujiri's rebuilding phase, media outlets Heavy.
com and Sporting News detailed a hypothetical three-team trade proposal that would pair 16-time All-Star Kevin Durant with Flagg and Irving in Dallas.
In the proposed deal, the Mavericks would acquire Durant and Tre Mann from the Houston Rockets, while the Charlotte Hornets would receive a 2032 second-round pick for facilitating the transaction.

Houston would receive P. J.
Washington, Caleb Martin, Max Christie, Dereck Lively II, a 2027 second-round pick via Chicago, a 2028 first-round pick, and a 2031 first-round pick.
Durant averaged over 25 points per game on 50 percent shooting last season before Houston exited in the first round against the Lakers.
Roster dynamics in Houston remain open to negotiations, according to league reports.
NBA insider Kelly Iko noted that rival teams have been told that Amen Thompson is the only near-untouchable player on the Rockets' roster, and while Houston is not actively shopping its All-Stars, it is more willing to listen than before.
