Gilbert expressed gratitude for being chosen to play “Halfpint” and credited Landon with shaping her understanding of television production.
“I learned most of what I know about our industry from him,” she said.
Karen Grassle, who played Caroline Ingalls, previously detailed pay disputes with Landon during production. “I felt insulted as his co-star on a hit series,” Grassle said.
She explained she sought fair wages, not excessive demands. “I didn’t want to gouge anybody, but I expected a fair wage,” she said.
Grassle later reconciled with Landon before his death and expressed pride in her character’s portrayal. “Her spirit is one to live by,” she said.
Behind the scenes, Landon’s work as writer, director, and producer left each of his nine children upwards of $10 million.
His son Christopher Landon directed Happy Death Day and co-wrote the 2021 Highway to Heaven TV movie reboot.
The Netflix adaptation stars Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline, Skywalker Hughes as Mary, and Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls.
