She highlighted the emotional strain experienced by individuals navigating complex administrative procedures shortly after a family loss.
"A lot of people are dealing with this at a time where they're losing a loved one and it feels like there's a real lack of compassion in some of these processes and procedures that don't acknowledge that someone's just lost a parent, maybe two," Eastgate said.
Brighter Places stated that management reviewed the situation multiple times following inquiries from the family's advocate, local councillor, and Member of Parliament.
A spokesperson for Brighter Places stated that the case had "been considered carefully and reviewed by managers" but it had to "balance compassion with our legal and regulatory responsibilities to ensure homes are allocated fairly and in line with policy."
The organization noted that its stance remains unchanged and declined further public comment pending the court hearing on August 18.

"Following these reviews, our decision has remained unchanged," a spokesperson said.
